Allspice, whole

Allspice (also known as Pimento or Jamaican pepper) is an aromatic spice that resembles a large peppercorn.  Allspice orginates from Jamaica and Mexico where it is widely used in both savoury and sweet dishes.  Its taste is a combination of warm cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg and black pepper.  In addition to Caribbean cuisine, allspice combines beautifully in Christmas puddings, cookies, in beef  casseroles/stews, pies or meatloaf for a warming flavour or they can simply be used in a peppermill mixed with various other peppercorns (black, pink, white or green) for a unique fragrant blend.
