Carob Powder

Carob powder is produced from the pods of the tree bearing the same name, which is widely cultivated in the Mediterranean basin (our Carob powder is sourced from Spain) and the Middle East. It is used primarily as a substitute for chocolate, as its flavour is very similar. It is very useful for those who cannot enjoy chocolate for various dietary reasons, such as gluten or lactose intolerance, and has many health benefits, being low in calories (it contains no fat) and high in fibre and calcium. Carob also contains no caffeine. Carob powder can be used in any recipe where you would normally use chocolate with very good results, especially in baking where it is excellent for brownies and cookies.
