There are few things more healthy and invigorating in the morning than a cup of Turmeric Latte, or Golden Milk. This new Spice Mountain blend makes it easy to make your own, combining turmeric with Ceylon cinnamon, ginger, vanilla powder, cardamom and black pepper. It’s not only the turmeric that’s healthy here, with the other spices all having their own health benefits too. To make your Turmeric Latte, simply stir 1/2tsp (use a small whisk if you have one) of the blend into your milk of choice – almond, coconut, soy and of course dairy all work beautifully as a great way to start the day! And likewise, the milk can be sweetened with your choice of sweetener; whether it be honey, coconut sugar or even date syrup, they’d all work well. You can also use the blend for smoothies, energy balls, and to make an energy-giving turmeric tonic; simply blend apple, carrot, lemon, mint leaves and Turmeric Latte spice for a real boost to the system.

Turmeric Root, whole, dried
Pieces of whole dried turmeric root with a bright yellow/orange colour and with the ‘clean’ taste of turmeric. The flavour is slightly bitter and earthy, although cooking reduces this bitterness. Use it to spice and colour rice dishes, in curries of any description, with pan fried fish and much much more.
Apart from its culinary uses, turmeric is extremely beneficial to health in all sorts of ways (see the page ‘Spices associated with health’).
To use, grate using a microplane or something similar. This process may take a little bit of time but the result is worth the time and effort. To make this a little easier you may wish to soak the roots in water first before grating.
Turmeric, ground (Curcuma, Haldi)
Often referred to as ‘poor man’s Saffron’, this bright yellow spice imparts a peppery, bitter flavour and is a main ingredient in many curries. It works well in dhal, pilafs and many meat or vegetable dishes. It is also used as a food colouring in mustard, pickles, chutneys (especially piccalilli) and much more. Turmeric has long been recognised as a powerful anti-inflammatory agent, and it is well known for its many medicinal properties – it is very important in the Ayurvedic diet, for example.
Kashmiri Curry Powder
A new arrival to our great range of curry powders, this blend is typical of the Kashmir region in the far north of the Subcontinent. The blend is based on the chilli for which Kashmir is famous, so will give your curries the most wonderful red colour. Other flavours come from mustard oil, fenugreek leaf and cardamom, all so typical of northern Indian and Pakistani food. Kashmiri curry powder has a medium heat, not fiery but with a nice warm kick. It can be used as an all-purpose curry powder with pretty much anything, and veggie curries made with this will be just as delicious as meat ones. The blend can also be used as a dry rub for grilled chicken and fish. Finally we’ve given Kashmiri curry powder the ultimate test – and yes, a teaspoon added to your baked beans will make them sing!
Ingredients: Chilli, Coriander, Turmeric, Mustard Oil, Fenugreek Leaves, Cumin, Cardamom, Black Pepper, Cloves, Fenugreek, Nutmeg

Sicilian Lemon Salt
Another star in our range of designer salts is this Sicilian Lemon Salt, in which medium grain unrefined salt is blended with Sicilian lemon, plus a smidgeon of organic turmeric to give it a vibrant sunshine yellow colour which will light up your cooking and baking. Obvious uses are in lemon sauces and Mediterranean roasts from chicken through to veggies, and this one is great in salad dressings. It is very handy for cuisines such as North African where salted lemons are used a lot (the same is true of course of Sicilian cuisine), and the balance of flavour between tart lemon and salt is just right. A nice trick is to put some of this on the rim of your Margarita glass. All in all, another jewel in our salt collection!
