Also known as Tasmanian Pepperberry, this native Australian spice is prized for its superior aroma, flavour and heat yet it has all the classic characteristics of black pepper. It is HOT and very aromatic.
It is best used whole in slow cooked dishes, but Australian Mountain Pepper can be used in any recipe that calls for black pepper. Please note that this pepper is not suitable for use in peppermills, due to the fact that as a berry rather than a ‘true’ peppercorn, it is fairly soft. It can be crushed/ground with a mortar and pestle.
As the pepper has intense heat, a little goes a long way!
Another great advantage of this pepper is that it is full of antioxidants and antimicrobial properties.
