Also known as ‘Hing Powder’ this is essentially an Indian spice used to flavour pulses/dahl, vegetable dishes, chutneys and pickles.  It imparts a stong onion-garlic flavour to Indian dishes and is also added to many spice blends.  To bring out the full flavours of this spice sautee/fry in oil with some mustard seeds and pour over lentils or other dishes. A pinch of hing  goes a long way and should be used sparingly but be sure to stock up if you like Indian food.
