A fiery Ethiopian blend of aromatic roasted spices and one that has a truly authentic African flavour. This blend is traditionally used in ‘Wats’ (Ethiopian stews) with meat, vegetables or lentils. It can also be used sprinkled on meat before grilling or roasting.
It is ideal for those who don’t use curry powders because of their dislike for turmeric. Berbere is made with lots of chillies, and many traditional spices, but has no turmeric. Our favourite way of using Berbere is in a slow-cooked lamb shank stew, which is Heaven on a cold winter’s evening!
